CHRISTMAS '85, WITH  KURT

Dear Kurt,

I am in my late time trying

Still to catch the tiger tail of wisdom,

Pull myself up to your side,

To tell you what I've spent a

Lifetime's struggle learning...

That I love living,

And that I hope to learn to love myself

As much as I love you and life itself.

Strange it should take this stranger so long

To near understanding,

Lost too long with forebrain wandering,

Always why-wondering,

Angry at never knowing why;

Now to begin to know

Truths are felt in the heart,

If it's open.

All to take this shy pilgrim

The long way 'round to wish upon the star

For us

A very merry Christmas.
